Levensverhaal Gerald Mkwelera

Gerald Mkwelera

My name is Gerald Mkwelera, I was born on the 9th of March 1997 and I am the second born in a family of eight children: three boys and five girls. My parents are alive, but none has capacity to help any of us in the family. They are peasant farmers, and we are known to live from hand to mouth. Life has not been easy and I was at the brink of giving up school just like my siblings when, in 2016, I met a pastor who helped me to apply for assistance from ReachOut Education Support Foundation.

I would like to thank ReachOut for rescuing me, I completed my secondary school education and now I am in my First Year at Lilongwe Technical College acquiring skills in Fabrication and Welding. The future looks bright because when I am done with my studies, I will be able to get employment, or better still, open my own workshop and be able to also help other people who are in need including those who have no job.

“ReachOut makes things possible”, that is how I can describe the Foundation, for without its intervention, it would not be possible for me to realise my dreams of a better tomorrow. I thank The Board and all members of staff of ReachOut for the good work you are doing in uplifting the lives of desperate students like me so that I can have a future.

Gerald Mkwelera.

Notes mid 2024:

Gerald is in good health. Recently, he finished his internship program and will continue his education according to plan.
